Along with his wife Sonia and a few others, Robert Delaunay was the founder and main architect of the Orphist movement, a branch of Cubism and an important avant-garde movement of the early 20th century. His innovative use of pictorial rhythms and color harmonies had an immediate effect on the senses and set him apart from more orthodox Cubist painters.
