Vilhelm Lundstrøm is a central figure in experimental Danish art. Along with his colleagues Karl Larsen, Axel Salto, and Svend Johansen, he stayed in the south of France during the 1920s. There, he discovered the works of Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso, and Paul Cézanne, which inspired his own work. Upon returning to Denmark, he helped introduce modernism and cubism to the country.
